PhD Scholarships in Modern Jewish History and Culture at University of Sussex in UK, 2017

The Centre for German-Jewish Studies at the University of Sussex is pleased to offer a 3-year ‘Alfred Bader Scholarships Programme’. These are available for doctoral candidates wishing to pursue a research project in the field of history and culture of German-speaking Jewry.

The Centre for German-Jewish Studies at the University of Sussex is one is one of the few research institutions devoted to the interdisciplinary study of the history and culture of Jews in German-speaking lands since the Enlightenment.

Applicants from outside the home country will often need to meet specific English language/other language requirements in order to be able to study there.

Degree Level: Scholarships are available for pursuing PhD programme.

Available Subject: Scholarships are awarded in the field of Modern Jewish History and Culture

Scholarship Award: 3-year UK/EU tuition fees (non EU/UK students will need to fund the difference in fees), plus stipend (£14,296 for 2016/17)

How to Apply: All applications should be submitted through the Sussex University postgraduate website. Please indicate on your application that you wish to be considered for the “Alfred Bader PhD scholarship in Modern Jewish History and Culture.” Please include in your application:

  • Research proposal (2500 words). See ‘Guidelines for writing a Research Proposal’ on the History webpages – http://www.sussex.ac.uk/history/pgstudy/researchproposal
  • CV
  • Statement of purpose (500 words)
  • Copy of MA diploma
  • Two letters of recommendation
