The Lulea University of Technology is recruiting a graduate student in quality engineering to conduct research on tools for statistically based maintenance planning within railway.

The project aims to develop an approach for planning the maintenance of railway infrastructure that makes maintenance operations more efficient and/or effective. More efficient maintenance activities are activities that with equivalent resources improve the condition of the system more than existing approaches; or those that achieve equal improvement with less spent resources.

Lulea University of Technology offers third-cycle studies in 82 subjects. About 600 PhD students are registered for study programs/programmes at the university; approximately 80% of them in technology and 20% in the humanities and social sciences.

Applicants must have documented skills in English corresponding to the level of English in Swedish upper secondary education (En6/EnB). For applicants who have not studied in Swedish upper secondary education, skills in English are normally attested to by means of an international language test.

Degree Level: Position is available for pursuing PhD programme.

Available Subject: Position is available to conduct research on tools for statistically based maintenance planning within railway.

Eligibility: For this PhD candidate position, eligible candidates need a Master of Science (or civilingenjörsexamen) in the areas of Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Technical Physics, Applied Statistics or the like. Since this research relies on communication, University requires good command of English writing. Since the position requires mathematical based reasoning, problem solving skills are of utmost importance. University prefers that students can start working as soon as possible.

Entrance Requirement: To be considered for admission to third-cycle studies, you must meet the following general entry requirements:

  • Students must have gained a degree at second-cycle level, or
  • Students must have successfully completed studies amounting to 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 credits are at second-cycle level, or
  • Students must have otherwise acquired the equivalent knowledge, either in Sweden or abroad.

English Language Requirement: Applicants must have documented skills in English corresponding to the level of English in Swedish upper secondary education (En6/EnB). For applicants who have not studied in Swedish upper secondary education, skills in English are normally attested to by means of an international language test.
