The Faculty of Social Sciences (FoSS) is offering up to four PhD scholarships at the University of Bradford. Scholarships cover the cost of Home/EU tuition fees (currently £4,195) for three years.

The Faculty of Social Sciences has been working at the cutting edge of research for more than 40 years, attracting leading international academics and committed scholars to work within dedicated research groups.

The University of Bradford is a public, plate glass university located in the city of Bradford, West Yorkshire, England. The university received its Royal Charter in 1966, making it the 40th university to be created in Britain, but its origins date back to the early 19th century.

Degree Level: Scholarships are available for pursuing PhD programme.

Available Subject: Full-time PhDs in any of the following areas: Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Peace Studies and International Development.

Scholarship Benefits: Scholarships covers the cost of Home/EU tuition fees (currently £4,195) for three years.

Number of Scholarships: There are four scholarships available.

Eligibility:Applicants must meet the following area for these scholarships:

  • UK, EU and international students proposing to study full-time in the Faculty of Social Sciences – International students will need to pay the balance of the international fee.
  • Successful candidates will have to meet the normal Faculty of Social Sciences entry criteria for PhD students including visa requirements
  • Successful candidates will have to demonstrate academic excellence and potential to produce a high quality thesis. This will be measured through (i) the record of previous academic success (ii) references from referees (iii) the quality of proposals
  • There will need to be an identifiable supervisory team able to supervise the candidate.

Eligible Nationality: Students from all countries, who meet the criteria, are eligible.

 

Application Procedure: The eligible candidates should make a standard PhD application. In addition, on the application, candidates must indicate their interest in being considered for the scholarship and a written statement should be included explaining their suitability for the scholarship.

Selection process:

Stage 1: All applications will go through the Faculty’s standard PhD application review process. Candidates who have successfully secured a position on the PhD programme and are eligible to be considered for a Scholarship will be notified by the PhD office.

Stage 2: The applications will be reviewed and shortlisted by a selection panel appointed by the Research and Knowledge Transfer Committee (RKTC) and including representatives from all Divisions in the Faculty. The aim will be to select one PhD candidate for each Division (Psychology, Social Work, Sociology and Criminal Justice, Peace Studies and International Development). However, in cases where applications in one area are deemed not to meet the selection criteria, scholarships may be distributed to other Divisions as judged appropriate by the selection committee.

Stage 3: The candidates are informed about the outcome by the PhD office.

Deadline: The application deadline is August 1, 2017.
