Research Fellows Positions Available in Advanced Robotic Teleoperation Development in Italy, 2018

Scholarship Description: The Advanced Robotics Research Line at IIT, Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia is seeking applications from candidates to apply for its fellow positions available in Advanced Robotic Teleoperation Development – [Technical]. International applicants are eligible to apply for these positions.

This project will develop new software and hardware systems as part of the master station in advanced robotic teleoperation in high-risk industrial environments with the aim of reducing risks to workers’ health and safety.

About University: Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT), with its headquarters in Genova, Italy, is a non-profit institution with the primary goal of creating and disseminating scientific knowledge and strengthening Italy’s technological competitiveness. The institute offers state-of-the-art equipment and a top-level interdisciplinary research environment focused on robotics and computer vision, neuroscience, drug discovery, nanoscience and technology.

Degree Level: Fellowships are available to pursue research.

Available Subject: Three positions are available:

  • Mechatronics Fellow ADVR INAIL [CB: 74433]
  • Virtual Reality Fellow ADVR INAIL [CB: 74434]
  • Augmented Reality Fellow ADVR INAIL [CB: 74435]

Scholarship Benefits: The successful candidates will be offered a 1-year contract with a highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Number of Scholarships: Three positions are available.

Eligibility: The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for the scholarship:

Mechatronics Fellow ADVR INAIL [CB: 74433]

Desired Qualifications:

  • Excellent Master’s Degree in mechatronics, robotics, computer engineering, or related field
  • Experience in implementation and programming in C/C++ as well as embedded systems
  • Experience in the design and development of mechatronic systems
  • Experience in CAD-based mechanical design
  • Experience with embedded graphics libraries and GUI development is a plus
  • Familiarity with robotic programming and software, e.g., ROS, is a plus
  • Creativity and proactive attitude
  • Strong communication and English language skills (both written and spoken) are required.

Virtual Reality Fellow ADVR INAIL [CB: 74434]

Desired Qualifications:

  • Excellent Master’s Degree in computer science, robotics, computer engineering, or related field
  • Experience in implementation and programming in C/C++ in Linux-based systems using multi-threading programming and libraries (Open CV, OpenGL, etc.)
  • Familiarity with Virtual Reality engines such as Unity3D, Unreal, and hardware devices such as HTC Vive, Oculus Rift is a plus
  • Familiarity with robotic programming and software, e.g., ROS, is a plus
  • Creativity and proactive attitude
  • Strong communication and English language skills (both written and spoken) are required

Augmented Reality Fellow ADVR INAIL [CB: 74435]

Desired Qualifications:

  • Excellent Master’s Degree in computer science, robotics, computer engineering, or related field
  • Experience in implementation and programming in C/C++ in Linux-based systems using multi-threading programming
  • Familiarity with robotic programming and software, e.g., ROS, is a plus
  • Familiarity with image processing techniques and libraries (OpenCV, OpenGL, etc.) along with augmented reality devices is a plus
  • Creativity and proactive attitude
  • Strong communication and English language skills (both written and spoken) are required
