Scholarship Description: The new UNSW Scientia PhD Scholarship Scheme is now available for all new international students to study in Australia. There are 125 scholarships available for the 2019 round.
The UNSW Scientia PhD Scholarship Scheme aims to attract candidates of exceptional quality into strategic research areas in an environment of research excellence, mentoring, career development, leadership and community.
Scholarship Provider: The School of Public Health and Community Medicine (SPHCM) is a leader in public health, community medicine, health management and health systems strengthening. The school’s mission is to promote health, prevent disease and to strengthen health systems and is at the forefront of research and education.
Degree Level: Scholarships are available to pursue PhD programme.
Available Subject: Scholarships are awarded in the field of Public Health.

- A stipend of $40,000 per annum for four years

Eligible Nationalities: International students are eligible to apply.
Eligibility Criteria: The Scientia Scheme is a structured 4-year program and so candidates must commence in year 1 of the PhD. To be eligible for the scholarship, the candidate must:
(a) Meet the UNSW admission requirements; and
(b) Meet residency requirements; and
(c) Not be enrolled in a PhD program either at UNSW or another institution at the time of application; and
(d) Be accepted for admission to a PhD at UNSW supervised by an approved supervisory team; and
(e) Be undertaking a PhD program commencing at the University in the year of the scholarship; and
(f) Be enrolled as a full-time candidate unless the University has approved a part-time award under section 3.5.
(g) Be located on a UNSW campus for a minimum of two years including the first year of the scholarship
Language Requirements: Applicants whose first language is not English are usually required to provide evidence of proficiency in English at the higher level required by the University.
Application Procedure: Once the application round opens, applicants must contact one of the approved supervisors and discuss whether that supervisor would support an application. Each supervisor can only shortlist a maximum of two applicants per research area.
Once the supervisors have nominated their applicants, the shortlisted applicants will be provided with a UNSW Scientia PhD Scholarship Application Form which must be completed in consultation with the supervisors that they wish to work with.
Step 1 Prospective Applicants identify a UNSW Scientia Scholarship Scheme project and supervisory team with which they would like to be involved
Step 2 Prospective Applicants submit an expression of interest to the supervisory team via the Apply website and provide information on their research experience and qualifications.
Step 3 If a prospective applicant’s experience and skills match the supervisory team expectations, they will contact the applicant to discuss the project and the next steps to take
Step 4 Supervisory team nominates up to 2 applicants for consideration
Step 5 Nominated applicants will be invited to submit a full application, which should be done in consultation with the supervisory team
Step 6 Applicants must use the Apply Online system to complete their application and upload the application form.
Step7 Applications assessed by Faculties and SHARPest Committee Step 8 Applications ranked and scholarship allocations made. Offers made in early November.
