Each year, The Institute for Transport Studies (ITS) offers a number of partial fees scholarships for full-time master study for the academic year 2017-2018. These scholarships are designed to provide exceptional opportunities to UK, EU and international students of outstanding ability, achievement and potential.
The Institute for Transport Studies is a free-standing academic department of the University of Leeds and part of the Faculty of Environment. The Institute’s primary purpose is to advance the understanding of transport activity, operations and use, and to develop skills and best practice among transport professionals and decision-makers.
The Institute’s mission is “to advance the understanding of transport activity, operations and use and to develop skills and best practice among transport professionals and decision-makers.”
Candidates must have IELTS (International English Language Testing System) 6.5 score with no less than 6.0 in each component skill.
Degree Level: Scholarships are available for pursuing full-time masters programme (MSC).
Available Subject: Scholarships are awarded by the Institute for Transport Studies (ITS).
Scholarship Benefits: The scholarships will provide a partial fee waiver for the 2017-18 academic year (equivalent to the value of £8875 for international students, and £2000 or £3500 or for UK/EU students).
Eligibility: The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for scholarship:
a) Applicants must hold or expect to obtain, a Bachelors degree equivalent to a UK first class or upper second class honours.
b) Applicants must hold an offer (conditional or unconditional) of an academic place for an ITS Master’s degree for the academic year commencing September 2017.
Nationality: UK/EU, international students are eligible for these ITS scholarships.
Entrance Requirements: Applicants must hold, or expect to obtain, a Bachelors degree equivalent to a UK first class or upper second class honours.
English language Requirements: English Language Requirement: Acceptable minimum qualifications include:
- IELTS (International English Language Testing System) an overall band of 6.5 with no less than 6.0 in each component skill
- TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) of 92 with no less than 21 in listening, 21 in reading, 23 in speaking and 22 in writing
- Pearson (Academic) of 64 overall with no less than 60 in any component
- Cambridge Advanced English (CAE) of 176 overall with no less than 169 in any component
- Trinity College Integrated Skills in English of a Pass in ISE II or above (if taken in the UK)
How to Apply: To apply for the scholarship applicants must:
a) Complete and submit the relevant scholarship application form, to include:
i) A statement of up to 500 words which details how and why a Masters degree from ITS would enable the applicant make a difference to transportation (e.g in their country/region) and specifically to tackle a significant problem or issue;
ii) Evidence of the applicant’s outstanding ability, achievement and potential;
iii) An outline of the applicant’s career aspirations.
iv) Details of their funding situation, including existing funds which are available to them, scholarship applications where the outcome is known or awaited, and other funding sources.
b) Provide a supporting statement from a referee
