About The Team
The Tesla Toronto Automation Controls team is looking for Environment, Health & Safety Intern to join our team. You will assist and provide environmental safety expertise at the Tesla Toronto site locations. With the growth of the Research and development laboratory, expertise in chemical safety is required to assist with keeping up with standards and regulations. Work with the staff to develop, coach, train, and administer safety management systems at the Tesla Toronto sites.
Description Of Duties
• WHMIS & GHS (physical, health, and environmental hazards), chemical hazards, and examining the information presented on the labels & SDSs, identify transportation of dangerous goods classes • Re-labelling the chemicals with updated names, hazards classifications, and info on the handle, storage, usage, supplier labels, workplace labels and GHS labels- Inventory Update
• Ensuring that chemicals are safely stored and handled. Assess if any further control measures need to be put into place (use hierarchy of controls)
• Occupational Exposure limits, and how testing will need to be completed for the amounts of chemicals that workers are exposed to
• Hazardous Waste Training: Respiratory Training
• Develop SOPs for the facility including NPRI, RCRA, Clean Water Act (wastewater, SWPP, SPCC), and OSHA (Hazcom, injury logs, PPE, LOTO, etc)
• Help facilitate Internal and external audits
• An active member of the JHSC
Requirements
• Currently pursuing a degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, Public Health, or related programs
• Coursework in chemistry, biostatistics, health law, epidemiology, environment and emergencies, systems safety, health education, and promotion
• Experience in Chemical Laboratory Settings
• Creating laboratory safety programs and following standards & programs
• Proficient with CEPA, OSHA, TDG/DOT, and NFPA is an asset
• Knowledge about regulatory requirements, safety issues, precautions, and hazards
• Excellent collaboration, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Strong understanding of chemical production and machine operations
• Self-motivated and able to work under minimal supervision
• Willingness and ability to learn new technologies and take on different assignments
