Transmission Engineering/Business Summer Placements – 2022

Duration: 12 weeks commencing June 2022

Location: Aberdeen, Inverness, Perth, Dundee, Glasgow, Cumbernauld, Caithness, Lerwick

Salary: £19,100 per annum pro rata

Working as part of our multi-disciplined teams, we have a range of opportunities for students to support projects across our Transmission business. We’re at the forefront of some really high profile projects which are ensuring our transmission network is structurally sound, operating safely and efficiently and providing sustainable and reliable energy to all.

What is the role?

We have roles where you will assist in developing investment and value management processes, models and documents and producing multi-year prioritised investment and delivery plans.

What do I need?

We have opportunities for those studying engineering, business or economics degrees and who will be entering their penultimate or final year of study in Autumn 2022. or those who have already graduated.

Project Engineering – Glasgow, Perth or Aberdeen – open to those studying electrical, mechanical or civil engineering.

HVDC – Inverness or Cumbernauld – Ad hoc support to HVDC Engineers during design review process, management of the document tracker system, organising meetings, taking minutes of meetings and issuing for approval, etc.  Open to those studying electrical or mechanical engineering (cables).

Asset Management – Inverness or Perth – We have roles where you will assist in developing investment and value management processes, models and documents and producing multi-year prioritised investment and delivery plans.  You’ll need an analytical approach and a passion for finding value in data.  It’s important that you are flexible, self motivated and confident in your decision making.  Open to those studying electrical engineering, business or economics.

Offshore – Caithness, Inverness, Lerwick – Positions will be available working on the Shetland HVDC project and we can offer project/construction management experience.  Positions will be either site based, or require frequent travel to construction sites and as such candidates should possess a CSCS card and be willing and able to travel across north of Scotland and Shetland.  Open to those studying civil or electrical engineering or construction management.

Operations – Dundee – on the drive to Net Zero, there are many facets on the SSEN – Transmission network that require care and constant attention.  Working from our Dundee office, we are looking for a driven and analytical candidate.  Working with colleagues throughout the business, where travel may be necessary, we will offer you the opportunity to enhance your skills whilst learning about the operations of one of the more innovative transmission networks.  Your contribution to our team will be vital to ensure systems and processes are aligned with SSEN – Transmission’s drive to net zero.

We’d love you to have some practical work or project experience that reflects your passion for the energy sector, as well as demonstrable experience of working in a team. You’ll also be comfortable working to and setting stretching individual targets and using your own initiative to overcome challenges and should have a genuine interest in SSE and the prospect of a long term future with us.
