Scholarship Description: The University of Auckland is delighted to offer AUEA Braithwaite-Thompson Graduate Research Awards in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Auckland. The Awards are only tenable by international students, i.e. students who are neither citizens nor permanent residents of New Zealand.

The main purpose of the Awards is to support innovative graduate research in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Auckland. The Awards are intended to assist International graduate students and to foster international relationships.

Scholarship Provider: The University of Auckland is the largest university in New Zealand, located in the country’s largest city, Auckland. It is the highest-ranked university in the country, being ranked 81st worldwide in the 2016/17 QS World University Rankings.

Degree Level: Awards are available to pursue graduate programme.

Available Subject: Awards are available for an International student undertaking an ME, MOR or PhD in Engineering

Scholarship benefits: The main Award will be awarded annually for a period of one year, and will be the value of up to $10,000. From time to time, a further one or two Awards may be offered, each for a period of one year, and up to the value of $5,000.00 each.

Number of Scholarships: Up to 2 awards are available.

Eligible Nationalities: The Awards are only tenable by international students, i.e. students who are neither citizens nor permanent residents of New Zealand.

Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible for this scholarship you must meet the following requirements:

  • The Awards were established in 2007 and are funded by Ray and Joan Thompson. The main purpose of the Awards is to support innovative graduate research in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Auckland. The Awards are intended to assist International graduate students and to foster international relationships.
  • The application is made to the Scholarships Office
  • A Selection Committee assesses the applications
  • The Scholarship is awarded by the University of Auckland Council on the recommendation of the Selection Committee

English Language Requirements: Applicants whose first language is not English are usually required to provide evidence of proficiency in English at the higher level required by the University.

Application Procedure: Please read the regulations carefully to be sure you are eligible before you apply.  Then click on the blue “Apply here” button and complete the online application form.

Scholarship applications will usually open around 6 weeks before the closing date.  We recommend you check the form early for any request sections, in case a referee or supervisor is required to support your application and to familiarise yourself with the form.  Apart from any sections that are sent to a referee to endorse, you can go into your form and amend your answers for all other sections up to the closing date.  All sections (including any request sections) must be submitted by the closing date, which is midnight on the specified date (unless stated otherwise).   We recommend you do not have two different scholarship applications open within the same browser.

Outcomes are determined by a selection committee and are usually notified around six weeks after the closing date.
