Peter Carpenter African Climate Scholarship 2016

The University of Sussex invites applications for two fully funded Ph.D. scholarships for research into African climate science. The Peter Carpenter African Climate Scholarship is open to citizens of African countries only.

The aim of the scholarship is to enhance the climate science capacity in Africa through highly trained scientists, improve understanding of the African climate system and improve the quality of climate information to inform decision-making and to reduce uncertainty in future climate projections.

The University of Sussex is a leading higher education and research institution near Brighton, in the south of England. Sussex was the first of the new wave of UK universities founded in the 1960s, receiving its Royal Charter in 1961.

  • Students need to demonstrate that they have a good level of written and spoken English.
  • Scholarships are available for pursuing Ph.D. programme.
  • Scholarships are awarded to undertake Ph.D. projects on Africa climate science.
  • The scholarship covers 100% of tuition fees and provides a stipend for living expenses of approximately £14,000.

Scholarship can be taken in the UK

Eligibility: University invites applications from those with an exceptional academic record including a first class degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. meteorology, physics, environmental science, geosciences, geography) and preferably a Masters degree. (Candidates with the equivalent of an upper second class degree and relevant professional experience/Masters degree may be considered).

Eligible Nationalities: African students can apply for these PhD scholarships.
