University of Göttingen Phd Fellowship in Global History
Centre for Modern Indian Studies at the University of Göttingen is pleased to offer three Ph.D. and two Postdoctoral fellowships for “Global History”. PhD Fellows at CeMIS are appointed for six months and are provided time, guidance, office space, and access to the facilities of Göttingen University.
The scholarship is granted for six months and amounts to EUR 1.600 per month (including compulsory health insurance and travel allowances). The work location is Göttingen.
The Centre for Modern Indian Studies (CeMIS) is dedicated to research and teaching about economic and political development in modern India.
Applicants must have excellent knowledge of English and the languages relevant to the research location.
Course Level: Fellowships are available for pursuing Ph.D. and Postdoctoral program.
Study Subject: Fellowships are awarded for “Global History”.
Scholarship Award:
Ph.D. – The scholarship is granted for six months and amounts to EUR 1.600 per month (inc. compulsory health insurance and travel allowances). The work location is Göttingen.
Postdoctoral – The scholarship is granted for 8.5 months and amounts to EUR 2.650 per month (inc. compulsory health insurance and travel allowances). The work location is Göttingen.

Eligibility: The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for these fellowships:
Requirements for Ph.D. candidates are:
- an affiliation with one of the following institutions:
o University of Göttingen, Germany
o Delhi University, India
o Université Cheikh Anta Diop, Senegal
o East China Normal University, China
o Universidade de São Paulo, Brazil
o International Institute of Social History, Netherlands
o Weatherhead Initiative on Global History, Harvard University, USA - a master’s degree in History or Social Sciences;
- independence, individual initiative, and commitment;
- excellent knowledge of English and the languages relevant to the research location;
- sound knowledge of the relevant scholarly debates.
Requirements for Postdoc candidates are:
- a Ph.D. in History or Social Sciences;

Nationality: German Applicants are eligible to apply for these fellowships.
College Admission Requirement
Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have a master’s degree in History or Social Sciences.
English language Requirements: Applicants must have excellent knowledge of English and the languages relevant to the research location.
