Applications are invited for doctoral research fellowships at UiT Norway’s Arctic University in Norway. International applicants are eligible to apply for these positions.

The purpose of the PhD Research Fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a doctoral dissertation to be defended publically.

The University of Tromsø is the largest research and educational institution in northern Norway. The main focus of the University’s activities is on the Auroral light research, Space science, Fishery science, Biotechnology,Linguistics, Multicultural societies, Saami culture, Telemedicine, epidemiology and a wide spectrum of Arctic research projects.

Applicants must have very good knowledge of Norwegian or another Scandinavian language, both spoken and written.

Course Level: Fellowships are available for pursuing Ph.D. program.

Study Subject: Fellowships are awarded in the fields of comparative education and migration studies.

Scholarship Award: Ph.D. position is remunerated by the State wage scale code 1017. The 2% compulsory contribution to state pension fund.

Scholarship can be taken in Norway (Fellow in comparative education, campus Tromso, and Fellow in migration studies at the Barents Institute, Kirkenes campus).

Eligibility: The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for these fellowships

PhD-candidate in the field of comparative education:

  • The position requires master’s degree in a relevant field such as pedagogy, sociology, history, anthropology, religious studies, indigenous studies, human geography.Other civic scientific master’s degrees may also be relevant.
  • Personal fitness will be emphasized.
  • Applicants must have very good knowledge of Norwegian or another Scandinavian language, both spoken and written.

PhD-candidate in migration studies:

  • The position requires master’s degree in a relevant field, such as pedagogy, sociology, history, anthropology, religious studies, indigenous studies, human geography.Other social master’s degrees may also be relevant.
  • Personal fitness will be emphasized.
  • There will be a requirement for an average grade of B (or equivalent) on the master’s degree to be admitted. Exceptionally, it may be admitted Ph.D. students with a grade average of C (or equivalent) of the master degree if it can simultaneously document scientific work beyond the master’s degree.
  • Applicants must have very good knowledge of Norwegian or another Scandinavian language, both spoken and written.

Nationality: Norwegian, as well as international applicants, are eligible to apply for these positions.
