Scholarship Description: The University of East Anglia now wishes applicants for its David T. K. Wong Creative Writing Fellowship to enable a fiction writer who wants to write in English about the Far East to spend a year in the UK, at the University of East Anglia (UEA) in Norwich. The fellowship is exclusively open for established published as well unpublished writers of any age and any nationality.
Degree Level: Fellowship is available for writers.
Available Subject: The Fellowship will be awarded to a writer planning to produce a work of prose fiction in English which deals seriously with some aspect of life in the Far East (Brunei, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, People’s Republic of China, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam).
Scholarship Benefits: The David T.K. Wong Fellowship is a unique and generous annual award of £26,000. The Fellows will be a member of the School of Literature, Drama and Creative Writing and will be required to reside at UEA, Norwich, the UK for 9 months. Accommodation will be provided on campus, to be paid for by the Fellow out of the Fellowship Award. Shared office space and computer facilities will be made available for the Fellow in the School. During the residential period, the Fellow will be required to submit written work to a nominated mentor and take part in Creative Writing Research Seminars. No teaching duties attach to the Fellowship.
Eligible Nationalities: International applicants are eligible to apply for the fellowship.
Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must be a publisher as well, unpublished writers
Application Procedure: All applications should be submitted by post. Completed application forms should be submitted together with a typescript of an unpublished original piece of fiction of not more than 2,500 words (please include a word count on the first page), written in English. This must be a sample of the project that applicants would undertake if awarded the Fellowship. The typescript should be a hard copy printed as a single-sided, double-spaced document. Please do not staple or otherwise bind the sheets of your typescript together. Handwritten work, fax or email applications will not be accepted. All submissions must be accompanied by a completed application form and the application fee of £10.00 Sterling. Do not include any additional documentation or materials.
