UK University of Cambridge fully Funded PhD Studentship in Experimental Investigation of Nanoparticle Synthesis 2018

The University of Cambridge is now accepting applications for PhD studentship in Experimental Investigation of Nanoparticle Synthesis. The studentship provides a full stipend and covers the University and College fees at the Home/EU rate. Applicants of any nationality may apply, but please note that the difference in fees for Home/EU and Overseas students is substantial.

The University of Cambridge is one of the world’s oldest universities and leading academic centres. It is made up of over 150 departments, faculties, schools and other institutions.

Cambridge also has 31 colleges which are independent institutions, each with its own property and income. The Colleges appoint their own staff on their own terms and conditions and are responsible for selecting students, in accordance with University regulations. The teaching of students is shared between the Colleges and University departments. Degrees are awarded by the University.

Course Level: Studentship is available to pursue the PhD programme.

Study Subject: University is looking for an outstanding student who is interested in working on an experimental project to investigate the laminar flame synthesis of titanium dioxide nanoparticles. The project will investigate the factors controlling the particle morphology, including the coagulation and sintering behaviour of the particles. The project will require the student to apply techniques that have been recently developed (in the context of soot particles) to provide real-time spatially resolved measurements of temperature and of the particle size and number distribution in the flame. The project will run alongside a computational studentship that will use insights from the experimental investigations to inform a detailed model of the process.

Scholarship Award: The studentship provides a full stipend and covers the University and College fees at the Home/EU rate.

Eligible Countries: Applicants of any nationality may apply

Entrance Requirements: Applicants must meet the following criteria:

Applicants must have:

1) Strong numerical, programming skills and problem-solving skills.
2) At least 4 years of study at University level and a high 2:1 or equivalent degree in a relevant discipline such as mechanical or chemical engineering, physics, chemistry or materials science.
3) Be able to meet the graduate admissions entrance requirements of the University of Cambridge. The successful candidate will be expected to formally apply for admission.
The studentship provides a full stipend and covers the University and College fees at the Home/EU rate. Applicants of any nationality may apply, but please note that the difference in fees for Home/EU and Overseas students is substantial.
